It's not fair!

I think in an argument with my parents, my most used indignant retort to what I perceived as a great injustice was, "THAT'S NOT FAIR!"
Yesterday while climbing, I felt that same rising of indignation and turned to my son and said, "I am taking back my comment that the routes here aren't reachy." Now hang around any climbing gym for any amount of time and you are sure to hear this comment from someone at some point. Trying to make routes equally difficult for tall and short people is what makes route setting hard, an art form.
For most of us, we see things as fair, or not fair - just as I did yesterday. We reject what seems stacked against us. Some people have destructive parents and they too opt for self destruction with a sense of entitlement or despair. But some with similar disfunction around them choose differently.
Those are the ones we applaud loudly. We love to see the underdog prevail. The dream to be realized.
It is what you choose to do about the deck being stacked against you and you recognize the probable loss. That is what truly defines you. We love to see tenacity and spirit, the success in the willingness to try.

Living is not meant to be comfortable and fair.
Even when we have comfort, we long for something to challenge us, to give us a sense of purpose.
Living is meant to be becoming better than you were yesterday.
The unfair challenges, are merely the opportunity to move outside your comfort zone.
